Writer's Information

This page is to help writers obtain information about Shulamite Publishing House and our requirements for publishing.  Writers are encouraged to first contact the editor at:  Senior Editor before submitting any work to us.

Our "Type" Of Material

Shulamite Publishing House is interested in ALL genres of writing which are compatible with Christianity; meaning most genres. We will publish books of poetry, essays, blogs turned books, fiction, non-fiction, study guides, meditations, apologetics, religious philosophy, stream of consciousness, free-style, biographies, research, and any other genre with a Christian message. We prefer texts which give the most glory to Jesus Christ and His transforming power in the author's life, texts which testify to His power of deliverance, and similar texts whose focus is on the diety and sovereignty of our Lord Jesus rather than those which are "how-to" guides designed to appeal to the more fleshly side of the reader. While there are topics desperately in need of a little Holy Ghost "how-to", these are not the majority of what we publish.

The Best Way To Get A Relationship With Us

Shulamite Publishing House, its staff and editors prefer to speak with writers before taking your time or ours in a review of your material. We want to make sure that your topic is well-developed and that your personality is up for the journey of publishing. Not everyone who would like to be a writer has the patience or disposition to weather out the journey. There are many setbacks and delays in the process of every title we publish. It is quite normal in our industry for books to be delayed several months due to situations which exist outside of our company. We must also know that the writer has a mental tenacity and emotional endurance for the process of preparing the work for press. The best way to gain a relationship with us is to send us an email or pick up the phone, call us and discuss your work, your idea or your proposal. We are open to you.

 Writer's Guidelines

1.            Shulamite Publishing House is a Christian publisher.  We publish and promote only writers who write from the Christian worldview.  No new age, psychological analysis, etc.  We publish writers who assert the autonomy and righteousness of the Lord; writers who believe and write with the belief that the Bible contains all of the answers to all of life’s questions.

2.            Whether overtly, or in a more subtle manner, all submitted works should communicate or reflect the following idea at their very core or in a thematic way: “The Lord is most glorified when we are totally dependent upon Him and Him alone.”

In other words, writers should endeavor to give the Lord Jesus the ultimate credit for transformations, answers, healings, and solutions to issues or concerns addressed within their writings.

3.            Soft cover are the preferred texts we publish.  Most genres are acceptable for submission.  If you have questions about your genre, give us a call to discuss.

4.            Writers should meditate and consider the passage of Song of Solomon 8:8-10.  Your writings should not conflict with this passage as it is the scriptural text for this publishing company.  If you have questions about possible conflict, please call us to discuss.

5.            We will accept e-Books of at least 80 pages [15,000 words].  Our ideal e-Books will be 120-200 pages [24,000-40,000 words]; larger than average to add reader value to the target price of the $19-$49 retail range.

6.            First draft submission due date is 120 days prior to targeted publish date.

7.            Drafts should be submitted in MS Word.rtf [pc], saved on CD. ALL DOCS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN A WORD.RTF FILE.

8.            Format should be: 1 inch margins; 11 point Times Roman font; left-justify; double-spaced text; single-spaced titles and headings; no bolds or underlines.

9.            Do not insert section or page breaks into the text.

10.          Label the CD sleeve with your name, phone number and the book title.

11.          CDs should be mailed in breakage-proof packaging with return mailing address on the exterior.

12.          Books should be saved into 2 folders on the CD:  (1) As a single file, a completed work; and (2) As a collection of chapters with each chapter saved as a separate document.

13.         Drafts should be submitted after the writer has checked for grammatical errors and has made spelling corrections.

14.         Drafts should be sent including:  (1) One complete printed copy – single side printing only; and (2) One CD with a completed draft as outlined in #12.

15.         Drafts and other materials the writer submits are not returned to the writer.

16.         Edits, suggestions and changes are sent back to writer and must be reconciled with our editors for final submission within 30 days of the writer receiving them from us.

17.         Each writer and each manuscript is accepted on a per manuscript basis.

18.         There are no promises and no contracts between Shulamite Publishng House and the writer until and if a Writer's Contract is drawn between the parties.

19.      Final copyedit of your book is the discretion of the publisher; we prepare your book to have a professional and finished appearance.

20.         All decisions concerning your manuscript and its submission, publishing and print schedules are based on the business agreements and deadline needs of Shulamite Publishing House.

Books of Interest

Our challenge to our writers is multifaceted.  Ideally we seek books and eBooks which are well written, well researched and speak with a sense of reality grounded in today's Christian experience.  We want our books and eBooks to be factual and to the point, and yet challenging to the reader's assumptions and/or adopted set of values, particularly those values which are in conflict with bible based Christianity.

We are particularly interested in men's works that specifically deal with current social problems which afflict our relationships, our marriages, our families, and our children. We recognize a shortage of men's written voice on these topics and we hope to bridge that gap by publishing more men. Fatherhood, and how to get from the absent [or banished] father to the consistent and lovingly involved father is a process that deserves thoughtful treatment and is best addressed by men. Constructive solutions to the long-standing problems created for men by feminism in the context of marriage and our ability to succeed in this area of life is another area very wanting for compassionate male voices.

We are also very interested in works which take an analytical approach to previous well known feminist writings, especially in terms of challenging their non-biblical assumptions and assertions.  An example of this is one drawn from Mary Wollstonecraft's famous work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, written in the late 1700's where she writes:

"...and the understanding of the sex has been so bubbled by this specious homage, that the civilized women of the present century, with a few exceptions, are only anxious to inspire love, when they ought to cherish a nobler ambition, and by their abilities and virtues exact respect."

There are no modern arguments with Ms. Wollstonecraft's assertions that women should be concerning ourselves with "nobler ambitions" [than loving our man], or demanding respect [from men the passage assumes].

Rather modern women blindly follow along with such unbiblical and commanding drival from thoughtful and assertive women.  Our Christian faith does not give us a biblical instruction in any shape or form that we, as women, are to parade ourselves around or get up into our own man's face to demand respect.  Respect is a MALE concern and need, not a female concern or need.

Specifically, our bible tells us that wives are to respect their husbands and husbands are to love their wives.  Our bible clearly outlines which priorities and concerns belong to which sex.  Yet church women find ourselves in agreement with such feminist nonsense because it sits unchallenged and unexamined beside the Word of the living God. We live contrary to our own nature when we embrace these ideals since we pursue a need that is primarily male and in opposition to the female nature.

If you can articulate a challenge to such long standing feminist mantras, you are of interest to Shulamite Publishing House.  Please contact us at:  Senior Editor.
